Direction of Arrival Estimation with a Circularly Moving Microphone
Zusammenfassung:
Spatial sound field analysis typically requires at least two microphones placed at known spatial locations. The use of moving microphones provides an alternative approach to sound field analysis, potentially reducing the number of microphones required. This presentation will introduce an algorithm which allows for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of unknown sound sources using only one moving microphone. The microphone moves in a rapid circular fashion, introducing DOA-dependent periodic distortions into recorded sound sources. The presented algorithm compensates the induced spectral distortions to estimate the DOA. The proposed approach can localize single unknown wideband sources with a mean absolute error of 5.4 degrees in practice using a previously developed rotating microphone prototype. Two sources are also localizable provided their angular separation is sufficiently large.
