Zusammenfassung: The way the sound is emitted around the head of a human talker varies according to the different phonemes that are pronounced. Previous research showed such differences of directivity in measurements made on humans, which include low spatial resolution compared to directivity measurements made on artificial heads that can reproduce a given sound production with a given mouth geometry. So far, a compromise had to remain between spatial accuracy and the variety of sound productions. The aim of the present work is to measure the directivity of various vowels using a life-size dummy head called NORMAN, with three interchangeablemouth geometries, based on realistic 3D scans of /a/, /i/, and /u/.The 3D-printed head includes an active loudspeaker and filters that compensate for resonances in the small cavity between the loudspeaker and the lips.Directivity measurements with 5° resolution in azimuth and elevation were conducted and the obtained results are presented in terms of balloon plots and directivity patterns in the horizontal and vertical planes.
