Measurements and Simulation of the Effect of Sawtooth Serration to Trailing-Edge Noise

Zusammenfassung: The design optimization of trailing-edge serrations for noise reduction is of practical interest. In the present work, the trailing-edge noise of NACA 64-618 was measured in the acoustic wind tunnel AWB with various sawtooth serrations parameters (length=2h, wavelength=&955;, and flap angle=&946;. Selected serrations were simulated using the WMLES solver MGLET, which resolves the wall pressure and the far-field noise using the hydrodynamic/acoustic splitting approach.Good agreement of the far-field noise and wall pressure spectra were reached between the present solver and the BANC trailing-edge noise dataset.Simulations of the serrations include two baseline NACA 64618 cases at angles of attack of &945;=-4° and &945;=0° and three serration cases with AR=2h/&955;=1, &946;=6.1° at &945;=-4°; AR=2, &946;=6.1° and AR=2, &946;=11.1° at &945;=0°. Comparison of the preliminary simulation spectra and the measured far-field noise spectra show good agreement at &945;=-4°. The maximum level of noise reduction was also achieved in the simulation. Simulations at &945;=0° show an over-prediction of the baseline case, which subsequently produce an over-predicted noise reduction. A repeat of the simulation is currently in progress.The final paper will detail a more thorough analysis of the results. The authors are also open to offering the database for benchmark.
