Comparison of Directly Measured and In Situ Determined Blocked Forces

Abstract:
For the source characterization of structure borne sound sources, the direct measurement of forces is a common approach. To get receiver-independent blocked forces, the device under test (DUT) therefore is fixed to a massive and rigid block. For practical reasons, the force measurement instrumentation is often set up by pre-tensioned force sensors between two plates. An alternative and equivalent approach is the indirect determination of the blocked forces using the in situ method according to ISO 20270.This work focuses on the omission of a physical DUT which then is substituted by an artificial force excitation at the interface to the blocked force mass block. It can be shown that for an identical interface definition both methods lead to the same blocked force results within the expected frequency ranges. Also, the limitation of both methods will be discussed.
