Abstract: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an important tool for diagnosing the human body and many biological as well as non-biological materials. The MRI scans are advantageous because it does not involve use of ionizing radiations. The vibration associated with the gradient coil of MRI systems during image acquisition may result in compromised image quality and this problem is more severe for low field MRI with lower scanning resolution. This study investigates the vibration characteristics of the lower gradient coil set of a low field open configuration MRI system, using finite element analysis and experimental measurement. The important frequencies of vibration are identified which is helpful to develop vibration mitigation strategy.
