Intersection Takeoffs and their noise impact around the BER airport

Abstract:
In 2024, there have been discussions of so-called intersection take-offs at the Berlin Airport Noise Committee. These are take-offs that do not utilise the full length of the runway. This study analyses the influence of these take-off procedures on noise impact in the area surrounding the airport. Both maximum levels of individual overflights and continuous noise levels of various scenarios with different movement proportions are discussed. In addition to the measured noise levels at airport noise monitors, population numbers within noise contours are also analysed.
