Abstract:
For sounds defined by their impulsive nature, special consideration is required when assessing annoyance and hearing risks. Although it may seem straightforward to identify impulsive sounds intuitively, standards and noise regulations reveal a surprising variety of criteria. This presentation addresses foundational questions surrounding the characterization of impulsive sound. By examining distinct types of impulsive sounds, potential methods for quantification and meaningful classification are explored.
