Abstract: Aircraft noise is a growing concern in densely populated regions with frequent small aircraft operations. This research investigates the reduction of noise for small propeller aircraft, focusing on engine and exhaust noise through the application of Active Noise Control (ANC) techniques. The noise of a small propeller aircraft is analyzed, with a focus on identifying the harmonics associated with the engine noise. These findings are integrated into a simulation model to explore various ANC design configurations, optimizing speaker quantity, placement, and power to achieve maximum noise attenuation. Specifically, the study evaluates three configurations: speakers positioned at the midpoint of the exhaust pipe, at the edge of the exhaust pipe, and externally opposite to the exhaust pipe. Simulations are performed to evaluate these designs, emphasizing installation feasibility, noise cancellation effectiveness, and the durability and adaptability of the ANC system. The proposed ANC system is designed as an add-on solution compatible with any small propeller aircraft. It emphasizes lightweight construction, cost-effectiveness, and energy efficiency for practical aviation use. Initial testing is planned in a controlled experimental setup.
