Abstract: An essential key point in the creation of data models of machines is the assignment of the relevant radiation areas responsible for the determining radiation and, in general, the modeling accuracy limited to the necessary degree. Practical examples are shown how the noise emission related to individual radiation areas can be determined during operation of all machines in the room by means of near-field measurements or by simulating the comparison method according to ISO 3747. In general, the combination of sound measurement and simulation with a data model of the measurement environment offers new possibilities for determining the environmental correction and should therefore also be considered in our system of standardization. The draft standard DIN 38457 on quality assurance for software programs may be a first step in this direction.
