Abstract: The planned extension of Nuuk Harbour for a future trawler terminal requires embedded blasting of a 300 m long trench in the rocky seabed. As part of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the underwater noise from blasting was carefully modelled using numerical methods and compared to acoustic criteria for the impact on marine mammals and fish. The modelling included noise reduction from a bubble curtain and was combined with measurement data from a previous blasting project in the harbour. This combined approach provided site-based conservatism and facilitated future construction work. The paper presents the applied methodology and results.
