Acoustic effect of absorbing embankments as noise barriers

Abstract:
In the project Acoustic effect of embankments as absorbing noise barriers funded by the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), the noise reduction potential of noise barriers (earth berms / embankments) due to their sound-absorbing properties through vegetation and photovoltaics was investigated by means of measurements and calculations. The measurements were carried out on two noise barriers (embankments) in southern Germany in accordance with ISO 10847 for the in-situ determination of the insertion loss of outdoor noise barriers of all types. This article presents the results from the calculations according to RLS-19 and Nord2000 on the two noise barriers (embankments) measured. The results are compared with each other as well as with the measurement results.
