Abstract:
The EARS seminar is a multistage course aimed at exploring how diverse disciplines can be integrated into a cohesive teaching concept on soundscapes. Building on previous research, the seminar combines elements from interactive design studies on social architecture, hackathon-style sessions where new tools and approaches are developed and integrated teaching methods with students led decision making. The seminar employs a variety of methods, including interactive brainstorming sessions, workshops, and lectures, supplemented by guest speakers from various fields of expertise. These activities aim to foster a collaborative learning environment where students can engage in creative problem-solving of noise conflicts. The results of the seminar include a range of outputs, such as posters of design proposals, and innovative tools for soundscape research and design. Future outcomes are set to include podcasts that further expand on the ideas developed during the course. However, the seminar also faces limitations and challenges; for instance, while students from diverse disciplines are brought together, the common communication framework remains predominantly technical, making it challenging to fully integrate different disciplinary concepts.Nevertheless this collaborative approach not only enriches the educational experience but also contributes to the development of novel, creative solutions that have the potential to positively influence urban sound design in general.
