How is soundscape perception, evaluated by soundwalks, impacted by urban development activities?

Abstract:
We have been conducting soundwalks near the campus of our university with undergraduate students of a course Basics of Acoustics since 2018. Over the years, there have been several structural changes at observation points. For example, the traffic routing at a major junction was modified and equipped with cycle lanes, and on the banks of the Bille creek, an old harbour edge was redesigned so that the quality of stay was enhanced by a promenade with café shops and restaurants with outdoor seating. Two unchanged points (in a quiet residential street and at the university canteen terrace) were selected for comparison. Based on the methods defined by DIN 12913 we are investigating whether the structural changes are reflected in the affective evaluations of the soundwalk participants. As we carried out measurements both in the summer and winter semesters, we also report the influence of the season on the results.
